The global pandemic caused massive disruptions to people all around the world as we all worked hard to stop the spread of the coronavirus. In New Zealand, we had huge success in crushing the curve thanks to our fast action, but even in this new normal, cancer still remains a global threat.
The Breast Cancer Aotearoa Coalition (BCAC) in partnership with Sweet Louise, Breast Cancer Foundation NZ and Metavivors NZ has launched the Gifts to the Future, He Koha ā Mua Legacy Project to enable a number of New Zealanders with advanced breast cancer to create video legacies recording the experiences of these women, as well as wisdom and insights they would like to share.
It’s hoped these video legacies will help the women involved pass on their stories, for their immediate family – partners, children, grandchildren and beyond - and help others who will face a similar diagnosis.
2020 has certainly been a year like no other and so was BCAC’s 15th Annual General Meeting – our first to be conducted online as a virtual event. Clearly everyone’s ‘Zooming’ skills have become well-honed and we had a great turnout. We were thrilled to see so many of you online with us and know that you were linking in from around the country.

Research has shown that certain lifestyle factors and health behaviours can have a positive impact upon quality of life, chronic disease risk factors and other health related areas, for women after cancer.
A team of leading Australian and New Zealand health researchers is undertaking a study to pilot a positive lifestyle intervention in New Zealand women. This aims to improve health and wellness in younger women after treatment for cancer.

Busting With Life welcomes breast cancer survivors from across the Auckland region. There are no age restrictions and you do not need to have any previous experience with dragon boating or any other sport. For 22 years and counting, Busting With Life Dragon Boat Team has participated in dragon boat racing to make a difference, to raise awareness of breast cancer and to encourage those living with it to lead full and active lives.
Due to the Government’s movement of COVID-19 alert levels, Look Good Feel Better has postponed in-person community classes. The safety of their participants, volunteers, facilitators, and venue staff is their top priority. For this reason, all community classes are postponed until the Government advises that we are back at Level 1.
