October is fast approaching and that means Breast Cancer Action month. As a breast cancer team the Pink Dragons are keen to help raise awareness by supporting fund raising events whenever they can so many of them are signing up to help collect for both the Pink Ribbon Street Appeal and the Pink Star Walk in Auckland Domain.

The Tauranga-based Boobops have had another successful dragon boating season winning six gold medals and one silver in the space of five weeks! They competed in three festivals including the Wellington Dragon Boat Festival, the Auckland Regionals Dragon Boat Festival and the National Championships in Ashburton.

The new dragon boat paddling season kicked off early in November and the Pink Dragons are all set for some hard training ahead. Some kept up their paddling enthusiasm throughout the winter with Sunday training whilst others kept up their fitness in other ways and took a well earned break from paddling.

The 10th Australasian Lymphology Association Conference will be held in Auckland, New Zealand in April next year.
Entitled “Koru: life, growth, movement” the conference will take place from 3-5 April 2014.

During 2013 Breast Cancer Support (BCS) established a support group in Auckland for younger women. The group is for women aged 20 - 45 years who have been diagnosed with breast cancer. All are welcome and there is much fun, laughter and open sharing of experiences about what it's really like to be a young woman diagnosed with breast cancer.

A breast cancer diagnosis has a far-reaching impact, affecting lives on many levels: practical, emotional, physical and spiritual. Family and friends offer much-needed support but often it is the husband or partner who must pull all the threads together, care for wife or partner and keep children, family, profession and life all moving forward. This is a group for partners, and grown up male family members.

Pinc & STEEL is more than an exercise regime - it is a personalised therapeutic programme that is offered to women recovering from cancer surgery and related treatment. All women with cancer are eligible to participate in the programme, from the newly diagnosed to women 25+ years after their initial cancer diagnosis. The Pinc & STEEL programme was previously known as Pink Pilates.

It’s been a busy season for the Pink Dragons team and ending on a high with us finally winning a gold medal at this year’s National Championships at Blue Lake Rotorua. A number of new paddlers joined us throughout the season with a couple joining only weeks before Regionals and Nationals!
